The Evolution of Home Wallpapers

People are familiar with wall coverings from ancient times. Scientists' findings show that the first wallpapers were used in the 2nd century BC in China. These wallpapers weren't like those we use today. The first wallpapers were hand painted and represented large pieces of paper.

The first wallpapers used in Europe were made from fabric such as wool and silk.

The first printed wallpapers date from 1509. They were made in England, using the block printing technique. The wallpaper consisted of twelve pieces of paper pasted together in long strips.

Later, in 1799 the wallpaper making machine producing rolls was created, making it possible to produce wallpapers easier and faster. In this period wallpapers became a very popular home decoration. Since the 19th century, wallpapers are mass-produced and available to a large audience.

Modern wallpapers explore all the possibilities of the technological development. You can buy 3D wallpapers, washable wallpapers, hi-tech wallpapers etc.
